Today, lots of Christians don't think about how they dress. To be honest, I think many women don't even realize that they're supposed to be different than the world. Many people quote the verse about God looking on the heart rather than the outward appearance. While it is true that God is concerned with the condition of our hearts, it's also true that he does care how we dress.
My husband and I go by five principles in our home.
- Cover your nakedness (Genesis 3:6-7, 21)
- Dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9, 10)
- Uphold the distinction between male and female (Genesis 1:26, 27; Mark 10:6; Deuteronomy 22:5)
- Be separate from the world (2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 1 Peter 1:13-16)
- Remember you represent Jesus (2 Cor 5:20).
The ensemble at the top of the page follows all of those principles. This one? Not so much. And really, I think most people would find the outfit on the top more attractive.
